A wonderful piece, Nan. There are some definite lol moments with the plane flight references. But you bring it all around to this wonderful solo flight. I don’t know whether I’m envisioning a Superman type flight with those precision turns….or Tinkerbell zipping here and there. I guess it depends on whether you are life-sized in the dreams! It might be nice to zip about like Tink? I love the paragraph about the flight through your home town, childhood house, school, etc. And, truly, I thought that might be exactly the flight being taken….the flights you are taking as you dip back into your childhood (and the years between then and now) to craft the stories you have been sharing, stories being told with seemingly hairpin turns and precision detail. But no….the flight truly is a dream. Except that we’ve all been seeing signs of some of that flying, you dipping over the houses and trees, standing inside rooms when a doorbell rings. I find the dream flight interesting. I applaud holding onto that freedom and empowerment in your waking life. I think you may also be flying in your writing.

AMY! Thank you so much for your always thoughtful comments. Could be more like Tinkerbell, if I don't have to wear the dress....Maybe more like Peter Pan! Yes. That fits me better in my mind's eye. I loved Peter when I was a kid, and your suggestion reminded me. All the history that's coming through the more I write and share myself. I am flying, in ways I never imagined or thought possible! I treasure your feedback.

Loved this, Nan. I used to have incredibly vivid flying dreams, so intense I’d feel like I was falling back into my body when they were over, and would wake up with my heart pounding. They were so real, that when I got pregnant I sent out a plea to not fly in my sleep. I don’t know exactly who I was sending it out to, but the thought of “leaving my body” while my baby was growing felt unsafe. Never had one of those dreams again. I might ask to start having them now, though, it was good fun. Thanks for this, I loved it :)

Thank you, Ally. So vivid, right? I wake up with my heart pounding too, sometimes. I don't have the flying dreams as often as I used to. Since writing the piece, I've been asking "the powers that be" to send me a flying dream when I go to bed. I'll let you know if I able to summon one! Big hugs to you!
